This photo shows rows of eggs carved by my students in the summer session as their introductory exercise to stone carving. At the end of the row, to the left, can be seen a piece I worked on that summer, ready to be taken out of the quarry into the studio for final work. However someone stole it that night. It was intended to be one of a pair of pieces: two females, one bending back, this piece, and one bending forward. Each would be involved in a gesture of moving hair out of her eyes, out of her way. There was no way to recover the piece and I moved on to the intended companion piece.
