My first stone sculpture was made from a “found” stone, a broken fragment that suggested some new shapes to be uncovered. As a first attempt, I did not intend anything more than non-objective “doodling” of shapes. It did show me and “make sense” somehow that the material of stone lends itself to abstract shape and form, it wants to exist and express in the world of geometry and physical force fields.
I had originally intended to make this first stone into one piece, one collection of shapes. The one day I discovered it lying on the shelf below its original placement, either fallen or pushed over. I finished it up into a three-part piece, each part a separate stone, just a simple balancing act.
No idea where this piece ended up.
