In reaction to the shock of the first stone being broken, I got the idea to make a gargoyle to protect the quarry. I of course wanted it to be fanciful, vengeful, warning, and protecting, like those I saw in Arles. There they had a spiritual message but also an earthly, quotidian presence due to functioning as rainspouts.
