Like the “Gargoyle” of the year before, this small abstract piece was another statement about the surprise of coexistence of different kinds of forms, accented by the surprise of different colors in one piece of stone.
It wasn’t planned into the work yet, but I was thinking about how natural it was for me that a narrative was embedded –be it an action or story such as the gargoyle, be it an emotion, concept or idea. It was just starting to occur to me that I wanted each piece to also exist as a symbol or image, the conceptual and physical spine of the raison d’etre of the sculpture. So perhaps this piece could be called “Coexistence”.
