In the studios of Sarah Lawrence College I started to enlarge my understanding of three dimensional form, wanting to acquire new skills in order to get back to stone carving in Lacoste with a broadened vision, additional skills, and new techniques.
Modeling in clay from the figure felt like a natural progression from figure drawing, and actually felt like drawing in three dimensions. This work was tremendously helpful for developing the ability to envision a sculpture from all sides and understand how the shape of the front of a form affects the sides and back of that form. So simple to say, so complex to know and use.
